Along with all of that, Backdrop doesn’t just sell incredible paint colors (like Barbie Dream House Pink and Troop Beverly Hills.) The company also sells other products like wallpapers designed and printed in the U.S. and environmentally friendly rugs made from Abaca.
Although Backdrop has incredibly well-designed wall coverings and rugs, as car enthusiasts, we are here to talk about the Backdrop and Porsche collaboration. Backdrop has created a limited edition Porsche paint palette that consists of four historic and iconic Porsche colors. The colors are Irish Green, Ruby Star, Riviera Blue, and Speed Yellow. The paints also come with a color-matching Porsche 75th anniversary leather keychain.
After hearing about this collaboration we couldn’t resist and decided to give one of the Porsche paints a try. We purchased a gallon of Porsche Speed Yellow and decided to use the iconic color on an interior door.
Introduced on the Porsche 911 in 1991, Speed Yellow isn’t for the faint of heart. Evoking the free-spirited vibes of the early 90s, it’s a color that’s bright, yet won’t blind ya; warm, but not in the “who-turned-up-the-heat” kind of way. It’s a shade that’s deeply rooted in Porsche’s history, tying it to the sports car’s legacy.
Speed Yellow is not currently on the standard list of Porsche colors available for the 911. The closest color on the standard color palette is Racing Yellow which is more blindingly bright. Speed yellow is available for upwards of $13k on the Porsche Paint to Sample color range.
Being completely online it may feel nerve wracking trying to order paint. Backdrop offers great and accurate images and descriptions of the paints on their website as well as other tools to help you make what may feel like a relatively blind purchase.
Backdrop will send you paint samples and 12″x 12″ adhesive swatches for a small fee if you are having trouble visualizing the paint in a room or on a surface.
We had no issue deciding on Porsche Speed Yellow. You can’t really go wrong when given the opportunity to paint a room in an actual Porsche color!
After ordering the paint it arrived quickly and was beautifully packaged for a can of paint. The packaging consisted of a cardboard box and Green Cell Foam cushioning. Along with the packaging were a few booklets about the brand and the other paint colors they offer. The Porsche Speed Yellow key chain was also included and displayed nicely when opening the box.
We decided to try the Porsche Speed Yellow Backdrop paint on a plain white interior door. The door was nothing exciting before the paint. Just white.
The paint flowed smoothly, dried in a jiffy, and gave a finish that would make any Porsche owner nod in approval. We are not expert painters or anything like that. We are just regular Porsche-loving car enthusiasts. In fact, the painting process was so simple that we even had a 5-year-old help paint the door with no problems! As far as we could tell the whole experience was great.
